Because this is relevant right now...
It's funny, I haven't even been back on this account for half a week but I'm already being exploded at.

Let's set something straight.
Fanart. Fancharacters. Fanstories. Any aspect, idea or design from these things that AREN'T directly from the source, are still original. If you take away everything from the source and there's still something left, it's original. For example, the FF armor. If you take it out of PL, out of TLoS, the design is still original, because visually it has nothing in it from TLoS. If I take a character, say, Ragan, out of PL and TLoS, just design wise, he's still original. He's original because I made him. I made his design. Nobody else did. The makers of TLoS and PL didn't. It belongs to me. So I have the right to be upset if someone copies it. If you made it, it's yours till you give it away. Ragan's design and character are mine. His setting is not mine. The world of TLoS is not mine, that's the fanpart of the character. That's the part I can't claim.

If you make something, it's yours and it's original. The universe you put them in that you didn't make isn't yours, but what you yourself made for it is yours.

What is stealing, then? Stealing is taking a huge chunk out of an original character or an artwork, and claiming it. For example, tracing without permission is stealing, because you take the pose. Taking a feature 1:1 out of a character (wings, face, crest, etc) and putting it on yours is stealing, not being inspired.

Being inspired is seeing a character and thinking 'oh, I really like those horns, I'll make something SIMILAR'. Changing shape, color... Enough that it's not identical in any way. That's being inspired.

Just because something is fanwork, doesn't mean taking something from it isn't stealing.

Good lord, can't we just all be cool with each other for once.

This is the Spyro Fandom. Spyro fandom. We're talking about one of the shittiest fandoms out there when it comes to this regard. The only fandom I know that could stand a chance against this sorry excuse of a fandom is BMFM/Biker Mice From Mars. Almighty Lord, that "fanbase" is full of lil' witheads who'll call you INSANE for even DARING to like something they hate.

I once saw someone calling out another, telling them to "go see a doctur hurr durr" just because they liked the 2006 version instead of the original, 1993 version.

I think it's a matter of case by case scenario.
When it comes to original fanworks (see Freedom Flyers armours), then copying the design piece by piece would be stealing, yeah.
With characters, when they're fancharacters it becomes hard to draw the line when the design rules are as strict as in the TLoS fandom - but hey it's still easy to make a nice design without copying someone else's so uh. People should be cool and stop doing the whole copying thing.

With character parts.... I'm a bit iffy. I come from bad experiences in the adopt / closed species community where some species makers will go out of their way to note or throw a tantrum at someone for using a similar trait to their species (see fluffy ears, rigged mouth, cheek pouches like Pikachu... I'm not kidding). I think it's not as much of a problem when it's only one aspect of the design - maybe the wing or horn shape - but it becomes stealing when something as a whole is taken and claimed. If I took Ragan's horns and nothing else, I WOULD say my character's horns were based on his, because credit is good. But if I took his horns, wings, almost entire design then it would be a massive act of stealing.
Colour palette wise a lot of people will tell you that you can't copyright markings or colour palettes, but you CAN be offended and angry if someone copies colour palette AND markings together. I had it happen. I was pissed off as hell. :'D

With poses it's again a matter of case by case, some poses are entirely original and I'm kiiinda ok if people reference my work, but I get angry if they trace it.  Sometimes though I use photo references to draw a certain pose, mostly with humans and humanoids, so if someone were to draw a pose similar to mine then it could be because we used the same stock reference to study it.

I entirely agree with the fanpart VS original part of a character though. A fancharacter can still be stripped off its fan elements to be something entirely original, and it'd still be your character.

I think the bottom line is that people should stop stealing from other / more popular artists. Not only it sucks and demotivates the artist who got their character copied, but it also makes the thief have a very poor and bland character design wise, as it's an empty shell / mirror of someone else's.

It sometimes make no sense when you use an existing pose, it's considered stealing.

Eh, you can't really copyright a pose but when someone intentionally copies it 1:1...

I agree so much with this, I have been inspired by a lot of people for my drawings, and I make sure to credit them as well, not because I'm afraid people will get after me for 'stealing' someone's art but because I want to let them know that they inspired me, and in fact your dragons inspire me as well as your comic skills, I have many ideas I want to do but alb having a hard time putting them all down on paper. I hope that one day I will be able to, and I'm sure I will, it's just that a busy life can get very sucky sometimes. Well I hope that you have a better day and I'm always rooting for you and your art.

PL drama. Someone had armor designs like the Freedom Flyers. Dunno who since I didn't recognize them. Rus said she talked to them and they altered the armor to not look like that as much.

Well I hope it worked, I get the fact people might like what Dragon produces but I still hate the fact it causes so much unessisary drama. Thanks for keeping me posted on what(s) happened/happening though. ;3;

I understand the stealing part but I feel like you might be contradicting something
Could be me since this copyright problem Deviant Art is having sometimes can just be hypocritical.
Anyway I hope PL is still going strong and its great to have you back =)
